Welcome Fall Menu: Drinks

This Wednesday marks the beginning of my favorite season. In celebration, I am sharing a weeks worth of fall inspired food and drinks. Put them all together, and you will be ready for a fall feast! Today I am sharing my husband and my favorite fall drinks, Hot Apple Cider and Hot Chocolate. If you have not had either homemade it is a must that you try it.

Hot Apple Cider
Makes 2 servings

2 1/2 cups of Apple Cider

2 tsp mulling spices

Place spices in a tea ball or sieve. If you don't have these just toss the spices in a pot and be very careful not to pour them into your cups.

Add cider and bring to a boil over medium heat.
Turn off heat and allow a few minutes for steeping.
Pour into cups and enjoy.

Hot Chocolate adapted from Hershey's
Makes about 4 servings

1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup Cocoa
Pinch of salt
1/3 cup Boiling water
4 cups (1 qt.) milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Stir together sugar, cocoa and salt in medium saucepan; stir in water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Boil and stir 2 minutes.

Add milk; stirring constantly, heat to serving temperature. Do Not Boil.

Remove from heat; add vanilla. Whisk until foamy.

Variations:

Add some cinnamon in the first step to make Mexican hot chocolate.

Add a few teaspoons of peanut butter after adding in the milk to make Peanut Butter Cup Hot Chocolate

Coming up tomorrow: Mixed greens with fruit, nuts, feta, and cranberry dressing.
