Picnic Picks

The weather was getting warm before all this snow decided to show up, but none the less I was able to get out and have a picnic with my husband yesterday during his lunch break. When the weather is warm we usually have a picnic lunch at least once a week. I had missed it so much over the winter and it was nice to get back into the swing of things. Today I thought I would share some of my favorite picnic foods.

Meal 1:

Rotisserie Chicken

Pasta or Green Salad

Dessert to share

Sparkling Cider

Why I love this meal: I love that you are only minutes from an impromptu picnic. All you need is to swing by the grocery store, to get everything you need. The meal is pretty wholesome. The chicken will keep hot for a while so you will be able to eat at your destination.

What it's good for: A nice leisurely lunch.

Meal 2:

Sandwiches or Subs

Chips, Pretzels, or Granola Bars

Cut up Veggies

Fruit for Dessert

Why I love this meal: This is essentially two bagged lunches, so it is really easy to create. It is also a great way for a couple to meat for lunch together during the week. Each brings their bagged lunch and you meet at a park half way between.

What it's good for: This is great for hiking, traveling, or when you are short on time. Just make sure that you pack your perishables on some ice packs if you are going to be hiking or traveling a distance.

Meal 3:

Cheese and Crackers

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Why I love this meal: It is a wonderful romantic time with lots of great food, wine, and dessert.

What it's good for: A romantic picnic for two, great for watching the sunset or spending a special day together. It is a great time, and is relatively inexpensive. Make sure you have plates, cloth napkins, and glassware to make it feel a little fancier, and don't forget the corkscrew!

Tip: If you have planned a picnic and find that the weather isn't going to be all that great, find a blanket and have an indoor picnic. They are just as fun and romantic!

Happy Cooking!
