I love Easter. It seems as though there is new life in the world again. The birds are back and a chirping, and the flowers are blooming. Spring is in the air and Easter is a time for family to gather from all over to share a meal and spend time with each other. There is a boat load of candy, Easter bunnies, egg hunts, but that's not all that Easter is about.
Easter is really all about the death and resurrection of Jesus. The Lord died so that we might enjoy everlasting life. I know that some may think that this is just an incredible story, something interesting to listen to, but not bearing any significance. I beg to differ.
The story of the death of Jesus is both horrific and awe inspiring. Jesus the Lord of everything, came to earth and died a terrible death for me and for you. Even if I was the only sinner in the whole entire world, Jesus loved me enough to die for me so that I could live forever, the same is true for you.
What else can we do but love God because of that? In light of the Easter Story I am filled with love and praise.
I love to read the Easter story and imagine the hope that must have filled the women's souls when the angel said "Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen!" Matt 28:5-6.
The Easter story can be found in Matthew 27 and 28. If you want to learn more about Jesus and His plan for your life, check out How to Know Jesus.
