Apple Sauerkraut with Pork Chops

One of my favorite savory apple dishes is my Mom's Apple Sauerkraut with Pork Chops. It doesn't have a strong flavor that you normally associate with kraut, but is delicious and gets sweet when cooked in the cider and pairs so wonderfully with the pork. Today I am sharing her wonderful fall recipe.

This is by far the best brand to use. Photo credit: Sam's Club

Apple Sauerkraut with Pork Chops

1 Large can sauerkraut
2 Apples, peeled and sliced thin
1 Onion, sliced
1 Cup apple cider
1 Cup water
4 Pork chops
Pinch of thyme

In a roaster, place sauerkraut. Top with sliced apples and onions. Add liquid and place pork chops on top. Sprinkle with a tiny pinch of thyme. Bake until the pork chops are done.

Happy Cooking!

P.S. You may want to make this when you are alone... I'm just saying.

Sounds delicious, minus the pork chops. Will try this for our Oktoberfest meal this weekend...still have lots of apples. Have you ever tried the refrigerated kraut? I like that...there are 2 brands here, Frank's and Krispy Kraut. Wisconsin is a big sauerkraut making area, actually, maybe largest in the country. Will also be making red cabbage, spaetzle, potato salad...haven't decided on meat dish yet for the meat eaters...possibly rouladen. Have not made that for awhile.

I haven't tried the refrigerator kind, at least not that I am aware of. Your party sounds like so much fun. You will have to post some pictures of your dishes for us!

No camera! Maybe I can get one of the children to do a picture.
