French Onion Soup

I love a hot and cheesy crock of french onion soup.It is perfect for those days when you are snowed in. Most of the ingredients are staples, or could be picked up when you know a storm is coming. It is a little bit time consuming, but when you are snowed in, what else have you got going on?
